Curtain Bluff – Old Road Village
Curtain Bluff, on the island of Antigua, has been meeting the needs of their guests for over 45 years. Situated on a bluff overlooking two beaches, this resort has set a standard for luxury and pampering in the Caribbean. It was rated the #1 resort in the Caribbean by Conde Nast Travelers in 2007. Each set of rooms and suites is decorated in a theme of cooling colors like blue, green, and white. Depending on your wants, you can have a room that opens directly onto the beach or a suite that sits high atop the bluff with your own private Jacuzzi. Some of the suites have marble bathrooms, sunken living rooms and a small library. On clear days, you can even see the neighboring island of Montserrat from your private balcony or patio.
The Spa at Curtain Bluff maintains the air of pampering with its five treatment rooms that also overlook the aqua-colored ocean. One of the treatment rooms caters strictly to couples and the massage suites have private balconies.
Once you feel sufficiently relaxed, the hotel also has several other activities to complement your vacation. Some of the activities include a 75-foot pool, croquet, squash, yoga, water skiing, snorkeling, a putting green, and a half basketball court. Curtain Bluff also hosts Antigua Tennis Week during May. They have tennis courts with floodlights and local instructors to help you improve your game.
The resort rounds out your tropical holiday with an internationally renowned restaurant. The Chef, Christophe Blatz, has trained and cooked at the restaurant for years and does an amazing job of marrying French Continental flavors with island cuisine. The food was so important to Howard Hulford, the former owner of Curtain Bluff, that he started his own import company. He wanted to ensure that the best and freshest ingredients would arrive at his door when needed. There is nightly entertainment in the restaurant and on Saturday, a beach luncheon with a local Steel band. And last, but not least, the owners have a weekly cocktail party at their private house on top of the bluff.
