Under the canopy of the tropical rainforest preserve in Volcano on Hawaii’s Big Island, the Aloha Place—Inn of Volcano bursts with life. Whether visitors want the nearby Kilauea crater, black or green sand beach parks, or deep and abundant forests, they will find it all near this hotel. The brilliant starry skies and sunny afternoons will thrill travelers, as will the consistently pleasant temperatures found in the higher elevations.
The hotel is rich with history and comforts. Built in the early part of the twentieth century, the mission-style inn is filled with antiques that evoke earlier life in the Hawaiian islands. Preserving the island is a top priority: eco-friendly cleaners, local and organic food, and energy-efficient appliances are all used throughout the grounds. Recycling and composting is encouraged. Unlike many other hotels that claim green status, the inn creates some of its own electricity. Updated amenities such as a fax machine, internet, a copier, and computer make a working vacation possible.
The three rooms and full cottage at the inn are spacious and have private bathrooms. Travelers on a solo holiday may enjoy the Bamboo Room and its separate beds. Couples will like the more intimate Alii Room, and larger parties will get a kick out of the cowboy-themed Paniolo Room and its second bed. The Sushi Guest Cottage has the most features with a private lanai and grill, kitchenette with cooking utensils, and fluffy robes. A mini bar for patio cocktails is also available in the cottage.
Delightfully secluded and offering solid value, the Aloha Place—Inn of Volcano is still convenient to the some of the best attractions in Hawaii. Guests will find themselves enchanted by the fertile forest grounds and the laid back island life found within the hotel.
Price range: $70-$105 per night for single occupancy or $90-$125 for double occupancy. Additional occupancy fees may apply.
