Travelers coming to vacation on the Big Island of Hawaii want sensational scenery, and that is exactly what they will find at the Dolphin Bay Hotel in Hilo. Close to the tropical beach and blue waters at Hilo Bay, this charming hotel is built on the mineral-rich soil that gives Hawaii its fabulous island vegetation. The sights and smells of Hilo's beautiful forests will add an air of enchantment to any holiday.
Proprietor and gardening enthusiast John Alexander has turned his hotel into a richly cultivated oasis in the Hawaiian islands. The beautiful plants--plumeria, orchids, and birds of paradise, to name a few--are cared for with the same attention one finds in the landscaping at larger hotels. Guests can walk the trails twist through the property past gentle streams and inhale the smell of the fragrant fruits that grow so well in the islands.
Guests will want to take some fruits and prepare a platter in the full kitchens offered in each of the 15 units. Additionally, all units have cable TV. The studios are spacious and can sleep two to three people quite comfortably. All of the larger units have open-air lanais. The one-bedroom units can sleep four, but visitors with larger parties can add rollaway beds. Visitors should reserve the only two-bedroom unit early, as it is very popular with larger groups.
Cozily tucked into a quiet neighborhood, Dolphin Bay Hotel is what the Big Island is all about. Simple pleasures like hearty fruits and the smell of Hawaiian ginger can be found in abundance at this pleasant and convivial hotel.
Price Range: $109 to $159 for a single/double occupancy two-night stay. Add $10 for a single-night stay. Additional occupancy fees per person (up to 5 or 8 in some rooms) apply.
