Slipping through the calm, blue waters of the Florida Keys flats on a custom designed flats boat under the command of Captain Diego Cordova of Flat Out Sportfishing, a 31-year veteran of the Florida Keys fishing industry, and hooking onto a trophy Marlin or Bonefish on your next guided charter fishing vacation could just be the thrill of a lifetime. Captain Diego loves helping the novice learn the ways of the Tarpon as much he loves guiding for the seasoned veteran.
A charter on Captain Diego’s boat can be either half day or full day and includes all fishing gear, tackle, licenses and bait, but does not include your lunch or beverages. Sight fishing, as it is known, is one of the most challenging brands of fishing in the Florida Keys and has been likened to hunting, in that you seek out your prey and only when you have them in your sites do you cast your line in their direction.
Captain Diego’s boat is a custom-built 21-foot Keyhopper flats skiff. Even at 21 feet, it is capable of slipping silently along in sixteen inches of water, with Captain Diego on the poling platform, his experienced eye scanning the water for a telltale sign of activity that would indicate your prey is in sight. When he sees the fish from this elevated position, he directs the anglers where to put their lines and the fight is on!
So, if your next guided Florida Keys charter fishing holiday includes flats fishing, and it should, then you definitely want Captain Diego and his custom-designed and built skiff on your side as you seek out that trophy Tarpon, Bonefish or Permit.
