In the U.S. Virgin Islands, Bolongo Bay Beach Resort, is one of the few small hotels to offer the amenities common in the large chain resorts with the friendliness and personalized service that makes you feel at home. Much of this small resort's success and loyal clientèle can be attributed to its ownership by the Doumeng family. Since 1974, the Doumengs have created a friendly and casual atmosphere with one-of-a-kind service. Original owners Dick and Joyce Doumeng are the only couple to ever win the Caribbean Hotel Association's Hotelier of the Year Award. A new generation now owns and manages the property and continues to provide unpretentious island hospitality.
Located on a 1000-foot crescent of white sandy beach, the Bolongo Bay Beach Resort know sand and surf are certainly a major draw of this hotel. A full-service watersports center is located on site and offers complimentary snorkeling gear, kayaks and more. The St. Thomas Diving Club, a 5-star PADI facility, is located at the Bolongo and provides a free scuba lesson for newbies that qualify. An exercise facility houses cardio equipment for an inland workout. When all is said and done, a refreshing tropical drink at the freshwater pool's swim-up bar is definitely in order.
The two- and three-story pink buildings contain accommodations that, while not luxurious, are comfortable. In true seaside fashion, 65 of the rooms have private balconies overlooking the Caribbean and come with cable TV, air conditioning and refrigerators. For travelers on tighter budgets, “value rooms” provide basic accommodations with dated décor and no ocean view but are sufficiently cozy. The Bolongo offers all-inclusive and European vacation plans that give guests the opportunity to choose between experiencing the fantastic fare offered at two of the best establishments on the island at no extra charge or venturing around the island for an array of tasty choices. The Lobster Grille serves up scrumptious Caribbean-infused meals and the award-winning Iggies Bar and Grill combines a friendly and fun atmosphere with a tasty menu.
For a beachfront holiday that is big on choices but small enough for individualized service, the Bolongo Bay Beach Resort is a true island treasure.
